Capsule Geology

The Goat showing is underlain by augite-phyric andesite of the Upper Triassic Stuhini. The area is intruded by Triassic monzonite, Triassic to Jurassic Galore Creek syenite and Tertiary felsic dikes.

The shear zone varies from 10 to 50 centimetres wide and strikes 054 degrees/30 degrees east dip for 90 metres before being covered by moraine to the southwest. The zone is inaccessible to the northeast. This shear zone is marked by strong listwanite and ankerite alteration with up to 3 centimetre wide calcite-quartz veinlets containing 3 per cent pyrite. The wallrock, augite-phyric andesite, is moderately to strongly altered to calcite, ankerite, mariposite and sericite with up to 3 per cent pyrite. This alteration and mineralization extends up to 90 centimetres into the wallrock. Associated with this occurrence are outcrops of monzonite, Triassic to Jurassic orthoclase-porphyritic syenite and Tertiary felsic dykes. Although selective sampling in 1988 yielded gold values up to 90.2 grams per tonne gold (BM 7424) chip sampling across this shear zone, including the altered wallrock, returned no anomalous base or precious metal values. A second similar shear zone is located 20 metres northwest of the above shear zone. This shear zone strikes 094 degrees/82 degrees north and is 65 centimetres wide with a strike length of 16 metres before it pinches out. Within the Hickman monzonite, a quartz vein mineralized with galena, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite was found 50 metres northeast of the northeast-striking shear zone. Neither the quartz vein, sampled in 1988 (sample BM- 16-7369), nor the sericite and mariposite altered wallrock returned anomalous gold values. However, the quartz vein did yield significant base metal values of 2.54 per cent lead, 1.26 per cent zinc, 0.36 per cent copper (Assessment Report 18555, 21061).
